Guilt Free Care Giving

Often time's caregivers are stricken with guilt when facing the much needed break from care giving.  What they don't often realize is their loved one could use a break from them as well. When caregivers allow their loved one to have social interaction with other's outside of the immediate family, it can make a significant impact on their well being.  Prior to the time that care giving was needed; those individuals being cared for led full lives that involved social stimulation outside of the home. Once this independence is halted due to physical or mental impairment, it can often lead to depression or feelings of isolation.

There are several viable options that allow for a win/win situation for both the caregiver and the individual being cared for. One option is adult day respite which provides a safe and structured social environment, lasting anywhere from four hours to a full day.  If an individual is homebound then in-home care is another option that can also assist caregivers with chores around the house. In the event that the caregiver wants to go out of town, then there is overnight respite offered by many assisted livings or personal care homes.

Whatever option the caregiver chooses, they need to be aware that change can often be a good thing, and there are well trained professional caregivers waiting to assist them with allowing an additional opportunity for quality of life for themselves and their loved one, guilt free!
