Academically, Tom Hebrank graduated from Emory University, in Atlanta, GA, with a degree in Economics and then obtained an
MBA from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a specialization in Finance, Investments, and Banking.
Tom obtained his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in
1995 and was among the first one hundred planners in the United States to be awarded the Certification as a Long Term Care Specialist (CLTC) in 1999. At that time CLTC certification program
was administered by the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).
Tom is a recognized by financial planners and accountants as an expert in the Long Term Care
planning field. He is a frequent speaker to professional groups. He has spoken at several statewide annual accounting conventions as well as to the Financial Planning Association of Georgia about long term care planning issues. Tom is a member of
the Institute for Certified Financial Planners (ICFP), the Financial Planning Association of Georgia (FPA).
His early career provided extensive knowledge of insurance and banking industries. Tom worked for a
Management Consulting firm as a specialist in the financial operations of the banking industry and later as a Consultant and Marketing Specialist for a software firm
whose primary product was a Portfolio Management and Accounting system for large insurance companies, mutual funds and public pension funds.
Tom became involved in the personal finance and long term care industry starting in 1990 when he accepted a
position as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of a regional Nursing Home supply business. This experience provided many insights into the Nursing Home industry, Medicaid, Medicare and the
needs of the elderly. Upon leaving this firm, Tom ventured out on his own and started a financial
consulting, tax and accounting practice that evolved into Advanced Planning Solutions, Inc. (APS).
APS now specializes as a provider as provider of Long Term Care planning expertise to financial
professionals and the general public.
